COMMITTEE NEWSLETTER, NOVEMBER 2000.

Dates For Your Diary;  Finals Night 2001 will be at the Alma on Tuesday May 15th. Presentation Night will be at the Alma on Friday June 29th, Janet please organise your holiday next year accordingly.

Oak & Ivy; Your Secretary and Competition Secretary popped into the Oak & Ivy to welcome the new team and found them in celebratory mood!! Can you spot Clive without his beard?

We thought it only fair to warn skippers as to what to expect when they visit the pub. We will leave you to work out which are male & which are female!

Fees;  Still outstanding Winter League fees are the Plough & Harrow (Bridge) £12.50, please pay up.

Knock – Outs; The draws for the first round of the open singles and division 2 singles have been sent to all pubs, contact Chris if it is missing this Tuesday. The remaining competitions will be drawn at the next committee meeting.

Greyhound; The pub is open again and has been extensively decorated, its worth a visit. All captains of teams with outstanding matches please get them arranged a.s.a.p., don’t leave it to the end of the season when knock-outs are in full swing.

Jersey 2000 and the British Isles Open; Stan Brocklebank was the only player to actually win a game. Highlight of the Dover & Deal effort was Dave Howarth making only his second ever appearance at the breakfast table!! Dave was drawn out in the very first series of the morning and made the supreme sacrifice in levering himself out of bed after the previous night’s celebrations. Unfortunately his opponent didn’t and Dave got a walkover to accompany the hangover.

Quote of the week went to Peter Farrelly the national tournament director. Prior to his match with Janie Macoy, the Kent Secretary (and 20 years his senior) Peter was heard to say that, if he lost to Janie he would sleep with her. Yours truly spent an enjoyable match reminding him of his chauvinist comment, as his chances of winning Jersey 2000 disappeared out of the window. When he eventually reappeared, everyone else spent the rest of the weekend reminding him.

Next Committee Meeting;  To be held at the Magnet on Thursday 18th January at 8.00pm.

Produced by Chris Saville & Dave Howarth. Any titbits you want included in this newsletter then please let us have them by the next committee meeting.
