COMMITTEE NEWSLETTER, FEBRUARY 2001.

Dates For Your Diary;  KBBA competitions all 12 o’clock registration at the Alma:-  ‘B’ Interleague Saturday 21st April. Finals Night 2001 will be at the Alma on Tuesday May 15th. Presentation Night will be at the Alma on Friday June 29th.

Winter League;  Alma ‘A’ pipped Royal Oak ‘A’ at the death again to take the title. Division 2 couldn’t have been closer, provisionally Royal Oak ‘B’ tied with Greyhound ‘B, but won the division on matches won.

‘A’ Interleague; The league had high hopes but the day started poorly with Ted Batchelor being taken ill and unable to play, Chris Saville damaging his hip and hobbling between tables and the reserve not turning up. Dave Howarth and Gill Saville shared the last slot. Mike Callanan skippered the side and was the most successful player with 5 out of 6 wins. Chris Saville and Alan Smith both won four, Tim Hayes three, Peter Clarke and John Mitchell two and Roger Oldfield and Gill Saville one apiece. The team took the last two legs from Faversham to snatch runners up spot, albeit a long way behind the winners, Tunbridge Wells. Sorry the picture’s a bit dim, but it’s Yob’s first go with his new diggitall camera thingy.

Ladies  Interleague;  The ‘A’ side took runners up to Medway with Skipper Ann Keen and Gill Saville winning four out of six. Karen Keen won three and Anne Cope and Janice Jones two. The ‘B’ side took the wooden spoon , guest skipper Janie Macoy winning three. Ann Garlinge played well in her first tournament to take three along with Lin Callanan. Lyn Lewis won one and with Sheila Howarth were the other players. We thank them all for turning up and making the effort on behalf of the League.

‘B’ Interleague; We will be putting in a second team and are still looking for players who want to have the chance to play in a tournament without the pressure of the full side. Interested? Let Dave or I know or put your names on a match card  this or next Tuesday.

Web Site; The league now has a web site at  http://www.barbilliards.doveranddeal.btinternet.co.uk/. Results and league tables will be there every week. For the stats freaks amongst you information will be displayed right down to individual players entire league records for a season. Any players who do not wish to have their data published on the internet please let Chris or Dave know. We will welcome any suggestions for improvements to the site (clean ones only). Email us from the site to receive this newsletter direct.

League (Spring) Cup;  The singles and doubles will be played ‘Off the spot’, all other rules remain as per the Winter League. Congratulations to Craig Carlson for spotting the deliberate mistake in the fixtures – Finals night is on May 15th, all fixtures from then on will be played one week later.

Who needs the break? Peter Clarke showed his ringcraft by potting 2500 on one 50 hole in his match against John Higgens, John still pipped him though.

Next Committee Meeting;  To be held at the Brickmakers, Deal on Thursday 29th March at 8.00pm.

Produced by Chris Saville & Dave Howarth. Any titbits you want included in this newsletter then please let us have them by the next committee meeting.
